Dec. 10, 2009 Protest & Press Release

HUMAN RIGHTS DAY (10 Dec. 2009) GLOBAL PROTEST FOR JUSTICE and FREEDOM

The International Alliance Against Covert Electronic Abuse is a worldwide grassroots movement campaigning for the right of people to be free from covert community based harassment and electronic abuse. Abuse that has caused serious and widespread basic human rights violations.

IAACEA's aim is to break the silence around the issue of covert abuse and reclaim our basic rights as set out in the United Nations document number A/3951. Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, G.A. res. 39/46, [annex, 39 U.N. GAOR Supp. (No. 51) at 197, U.N. Doc. A/39/51 (1984)], entered into force June 26, 1987.

In Part I, Article I, this Convention defines torture as severe pain, whether physical or mental and intentionally inflicted on a person. It later states, in the same Article, that the convention is violated if torture is inflicted with the consent or acquiescence of a public official or other person acting in an official capacity.

The many people subjected to covert community based harassment and electronic attacks to body and mind experience acute physical pain and suffering.These attacks occur daily in the sanctuary of their home as well as outside in their respective communities. The quality of life is significantly eroded by the effects of this degrading treatment.

Members of the International Alliance Against Covert Electronic Abuse take up human rights issues through mass demonstrations, and direct lobbying as well as online and offline campaigning.

Working with and for individuals who experience this abuse, we campaign so that every person may enjoy all of the human rights as stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Through international solidarity, our aim to:

* Educate the public about the erosion of our basic human rights.
* Lobby the government to create laws to protect people from covert electronic abuse.
* Provide community support for those people and their families who are affected by covert electronic abuse.
* Challenge governments and those who hold power to end abusive practices and respect international human rights law.
* Collaborate with international organizations:
--- To obtain justice for survivors of torture
--- To hold accountable the governments and individuals who perpetrate torture
--- To develop the means of ensuring compliance with international standards and securing remedies for victims.
